Course 5: Addressing (Back) Pain in Labour and Delivery
Pregnant women are worried about the pain that they will experience during labour and delivery.
Women with pelvic girdle pain (PGP) and low back pain (LBP) have a heightened sense of worry and fear of fragility.
Understand how to examine providers’ (including physiotherapists’) beliefs and biases about pain during childbirth, understand the biopsychosocial contributors to the experience of LBP during pregnancy and childbirth, and understand several pain-modulating strategies that physiotherapists can teach to pregnant clients as they prepare for birth.
Learn how to apply pain neuroscience education to this special patient population in order to empower the next generation of mothers.
Physiotherapists play a key role in helping women understand how to manage their pain during labour and delivery, especially when they have concurrent lumbopelvic pain.
Join Ibbie, a registered physiotherapist, pelvic health physiotherapist, and certified doula as she explores this topic from a place of personal and clinical experience.
