PT-Together Free Webinar Episode 10: What is the 'New Normal' for Physiotherapists

May 08, 2020 - 14:00 (EDT)
1 hour
We will be returning to the clinic soon, so it's time to start discussing what that will look like for clinic owners, clinicians, new grads, and students.

Here's what we will be discussing:

  • Hybrid models of care vs. going back to the old way
  • Impact on manual therapy
  • Unemployment rate pre-COVID vs. post-COVID
  • IC vs. Employee -- annual earnings?
  • Impact on new grads/students

Register below to join this conversation with Darryl Yardley, representing the clinic owner voice, and Emma Swaffield who will be representing the student voice. A survey has been shared with students across the country and we will be presenting data from this survey.

Why the clinical instructor voice?

Bahram Jam, founder of the Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute (APTEI), will represent the clinical instructor voice (and will also share his thoughts as a clinician).

Why the clinic owner voice?

Darryl Yardley, physiotherapist and founder of Mentorship Bootcamp, will represent the clinic owner voice. It's often thought that true leaders are forged in the fires of crisis and chaos. These are the moments that separate the great from the ordinary. More than ever, we will be looking to our clinic owner leaders as come out of the COVID-19 pandemic and enter the corona-economy.

Why the clinician voice?

Ryan Wells, physiotherapist at Pivot Sport Medicine, will represent the clinician voice. Clinicians are on the front lines providing care each and every day. They will be involved in assuring patients it is safe to return to the clinic, assist clinic owners in getting operations up and running, and create long-term hybrid model strategies to future proof the practice.

Why the student and new grad voice?

Emma Swaffield will represent the student voice and will be presenting data from a student survey. Students and new grads are the future of our profession. Right now, they are definitely feeling the stress that comes along with the uncertainty of not knowing when they will be able to get back into the classroom to practice clinical skills, and back into the clinical settings to get their required hours of supervised clinical practice.

If you are a student, share your opinion by completing this short survey.

WARNING! THIS WEBINAR IS LIMITED TO 1000 CLINICIANS. THERE ARE ONLY 50 SEATS LEFT. REGISTER NOW TO GET A SPOT.

The instructors
Ryan Wells
H.B.Sc.KIN, MScPT, FCAMPT

Ryan Wells graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Prior to this he earned his Honors Baccalaureate of Science degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University. In 2019 he completed his Diploma of Manipulative Physical Therapy with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

It was his sports background and love of science that led Ryan to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. Ryan started his baseball career from the age of 6 and continued to play at a high level until his late 20’s. This first-hand experience has provided him with the knowledge of movement mechanics, injuries, treatment, and exercise prescription specific to the baseball player. Over the past 8 years he has worked with baseball players from house league to the national level. Throughout his academic career, Ryan has taken a keen interest in research, completing an undergraduate thesis in biomechanics. Furthermore, he was lead author for his graduate research project. This has provided him with the ability to evaluate research literature and apply it to his patients effectively.

Ryan has taken continuing education courses in Post Concussion Management, Soft Tissue Release, Functional Dry Needling, and is a Red Cross First Responder. In his spare time, Ryan likes to play baseball, football, and downhill skiing. He can also be spotted running, biking, and in the gym in the Bloor West community.
