The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) is hosting its first-ever Virtual Summit on Nov 20-21, 2020. This summit will bring together the physiotherapy community to build connections and to look toward the future of the profession.
Leading up to the CPA Virtual Summit, we will be running the Virtual Summit Series - a series of live online webinars that will cover a variety of topics and areas of interest. This entire series is free for CPA Members!

Speakers: Dr. Jena Ogston
Session Description: This presentation directed at orthopaedic clinicians will include a brief overview of foot and ankle function in supporting lower extremity biomechanics. Following, literature will be reviewed on what is currently known about foot strengthening interventions and footwear influences Lastly, recent research will guide the development of a progressive foot strengthening program that can be applied to patients throughout the lifespan.

Speaker Bio:
Shaun Cleaver is a physiotherapist and postdoctoral fellow at McGill University. He is currently leading a research project about disability-related policy initiatives in Zambia. In this project, Shaun collaborates with a variety of stakeholders to review the process of disability policy development and explore the ways that persons with disabilities in rural areas perceive the policy roll-out. Mathieu Simard is a PhD candidate at McGill University and lecturer at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC). He is currently involved in research projects examining the intersection of structured health vulnerabilities and social justice for persons with disabilities experiencing humanitarian emergencies. His interest to address the climate crisis topic comes from experience working on various components of the disaster cycle.

Description de la séance : Cette présentation s’adressant aux cliniciens orthopédiques comprendra un bref aperçu de la fonction de la cheville et du pied dans le soutien de la biomécanique des extrémités inférieures. Ensuite, on passera en revue la littérature sur ce que l’on connaît actuellement au sujet des interventions de renforcement du pied et les influences sur les chaussures. Finalement, une recherche récente guidera l’élaboration d’un programme progressif de renforcement du pied qui peut être appliqué sur les patients tout au long de leur vie.
